Find the Right Expert for Your Journey
You are warmly invited to explore our international directory of EEG Awakened Mind trainers and practitioners. Private sessions, group brainwave trainings, and corporate programs can be booked with both trainers and practitioners. Practitioner training seminars, however, can only be booked directly with trainers. For easy access, all experts are listed by region, country, and state.
TRAINERS
If you wish to pursue a career as an Awakened Mind Practitioner or Coach — working with individuals, groups, and/or research — the trainers listed here are authorized by IAM to train and certify you.
Seminar rates and content may vary by trainer, so be sure to ask for details. Each trainer’s listed specialties will help you choose the person best suited to your needs.

PRACTITIONERS
All Awakened Mind practitioners and trainers offer private sessions of EEG-monitored meditation for mental training, self-discovery, healing, and transformation.
In addition to guiding people into the Awakened Mind pattern for creativity, insight, and healing, some practitioners also specialize in peak performance training for corporations, sports teams, and artists in music, dance, and theater.
A number of practitioners focus on intuition, healing, spiritual awakening, and non-duality. Others travel internationally and contribute to teaching and research. To find the best match, simply explain your needs to the practitioner.
COACHES
The certified Awakened Mind Coach is fully trained in Awakened Mind theory and meditation practices but does not lead group brainwave trainings. Coaches are fully qualified, however, to conduct private sessions of any kind.
Practitioner Trainers are highly experienced professionals who specialize in training new practitioners and leading group sessions. They are recognized by the official IAM Trainer Badge, which signifies advanced expertise, teaching experience, and commitment to the standards of the Institute for the Awakened Mind. Judith Pennington, — our senior Practitioner Trainer — assisted Anna Wise during her seminars at the Esalen Institute and received additional specialized training directly from her.
Practitioners who have successfully completed their certification are recognized by the title Practitioner shown in their profile. This confirms that they meet the professional standards set by the Institute for the Awakened Mind. Certified practitioners are also authorized to display the Practitioners badge on their personal websites and communication materials, signifying their accredited status.
From Pioneers to Practitioners
Today’s IAM trainers, practitioners, and coaches carry forward the groundbreaking work of C. Maxwell Cade, founder of the Awakened Mind, and Anna Wise, founder of the Awakened Mind Method — ensuring their legacy continues to inspire and evolve worldwide.
C. Maxwell Cade (1918–1985)
British biophysicist, meditation researcher, and co-inventor of the original Mind Mirror EEG. Raised in London, Cade combined early training in memory, yoga, and Japanese martial arts with a lifelong curiosity for science. After wartime work in radar and later research in infrared thermography, he turned to the mind–body connection, collaborating with Dr. Ann Woolley-Hart on galvanic skin response (ESR/GSR) and states of relaxation.
In 1976, with engineer Geoffrey Blundell, Cade built the first dual-hemisphere Mind Mirror, making brainwave patterns visible in real time and inspiring a practical “map of consciousness.” He described the Awakened Mind pattern—an integration of beta, alpha, and theta associated with clarity, creativity, and insight—and used biofeedback to teach people how to access it. Cade’s classic book, The Awakened Mind (1979), helped launch instrument-assisted meditation and influenced student Anna Wise, who carried the work to a global audience.
A fellow of several scientific societies and author of hundreds of papers, Cade bridged rigorous inquiry with contemplative practice, laying the foundation for today’s EEG-guided consciousness training.
Geoffrey Blundell (1923–2003)
Geoffrey Gordon Blundell was a British electronics engineer, inventor, and co-creator of the original Mind Mirror EEG. Best known in broadcasting for developing the first wireless radio microphones — used in major films including 2001: A Space Odyssey and Titanic — he also made a lasting mark in consciousness research.
Blundell began his career at EMI, working with television pioneer John Logie Baird, and during the Second World War contributed to radar technology through the development of the cavity magnetron. In the early 1970s, a meeting with C. Maxwell Cade drew him into biofeedback research. Intrigued by Cade’s work on altered states and healing, Blundell designed more advanced monitoring devices, culminating in the first Mind Mirror EEG. This instrument revealed the brainwave pattern Cade called the Awakened Mind, a breakthrough that connected meditation with measurable brain activity.
Together, Blundell and Cade studied healers, meditators, and spiritual teachers, showing how brainwave synchrony could be linked to creativity, insight, and even the transfer of healing states. His openness to both science and spirituality also led him to the Tibetan Buddhist Dzogchen community, with whom he traveled to Tibet in 1988.
Respected for his approachable manner and inventive spirit, Blundell bridged hard science, the arts, and inner exploration — leaving a legacy that continues in both film and consciousness research.
Anna Wise (1950–2010)
Anna Wise was one of the most influential teachers of instrument-assisted meditation. Born in Selma, Alabama, she combined Eastern contemplative traditions with Western science, dedicating her life to developing the Awakened Mind Program.
After near-death experiences in childhood awakened her search for higher states of consciousness, Anna moved to London in the 1970s where she studied with Maxwell Cade and took part in the early research on the Mind Mirror EEG. Anna was a student of Max’s when he and electronics engineer Geoff Blundell invented the Mind Mirror in 1976. With her husband, acupuncturist Jim MacRitchie, she also explored creativity and movement through The Natural Dance Workshop.
In 1981, she returned to the United States with a Mind Mirror and quickly became a sought-after trainer, teaching CEOs, artists, healers, and meditators. Her long association with the Esalen Institute in California brought the Awakened Mind method to thousands of students worldwide. Through decades of hands-on experience with the Mind Mirror, she created the Anna Wise Protocol which is the basis of the Awakened Mind Practitioner Program taught by the Institute for the Awakened Mind today.
Anna authored two classic books — The High-Performance Mind (1996) and Awakening the Mind (2003) — which remain cornerstones in the field of consciousness research. Despite battling multiple sclerosis in her later years, she continued to teach and inspire until her passing in 2010.
Her legacy lives on through the many practitioners she trained, the Awakened Mind Protocol that bears her name, and the Institute for the Awakened Mind that continues her life’s work.
